Projects / Metallic Headband

Project Overview

In this detailed tutorial, London milliner Elena Shvab will show you how to fuse metallic foil and organza together to create a special new millinery material. She will then explain how to use this material to create a gorgeous metallic headband similar to the stand out ‘Charlotte’ design from her Tenera A/W 19-20 Collection (above).

Decorative metallic foil is made up of a thin layer of non-reactive metallic paper and a layer of clear cellophane. These shiny foils are used for all kinds of crafting and come in a range of colours. Once you’ve mastered this new textile technique and created your own headband, we’re sure you’ll think of lots of other ways to use this method to add metallic effects to your work and create your own unique hat decorations and trimmings.

Before you begin, it might be helpful to watch Elena’s video overview of this project…
