Description

When I saw Elena's tutorial I loved how she had created and used the gilded organza. I thought it would look impressive on a bigger piece, but perhaps with smaller pieces. I imagined a gold brim with a see through quality, bright due the gilding, but light and ethereal.

I designed the brim by cutting mini rectangles, sliced and twisted together. These I attached together in bias strips layer around a brim block. I added a second layer straight for contrast. I felt the brim needed more structural support so I blocked a single layer of sinamay and overlaid the gold leaf capeline. The hat was finished conventionally with wire and bias. I added extra bias beneath the hat to emphasise the pattern. I decided on a very simple crown, the brim is the show.
