Description

I was inspired to create a head piece that embodies individuals who are happy in their own skin. Zou Zou is a celebration of inclusiveness, diversity, self-expression and the trailblazers.

Acknowledging the following artists and communities as my source of inspiration; Drag Culture, LGBTGIA+ social movement, Andy Warhol and Josephine Baker.

  • Wool felt
  • Jacquard acid dye (501 Sun Yellow)
  • Vintage braid
  • Gütermann threads
  • Millinery wire
  • Tulle
  • Comb

Hat Making Techniques

  • Created the banana skin pattern
  • Hand dyed, cut and shaped wool felt
  • Free motion machine stitched details
  • Hand stitched and wired all elements together
  • Mounted it on to a hand shaped tulle headband
  • Hand stitched in braid lining
