My design process started with selecting my subjects for the theme, Happy Place Competition. I began to think about what my happy place meant to me. I realized I had many happy places such as spending time with my family, traveling, making beautiful hats, making and growing flowers. My subjects for a Happy Place were narrow down to two places. One place related to time spent with my mother making handmade flowers and planting them. The other place is time spent with my husband traveling to the islands to celebrate our wedding anniversary and his birthday. These places were selected as my sources of inspiration for design. My hat name is called Eye of Beauty.

I preceded with the following design processes:
Sketching the hat design, selecting and purchasing materials, establish a budget, explore techniques, making samples, and completed the final project.

The 1st subject for my Happy Place relates to time spent with my mother making flowers. As a tribute to my mother I created a garden hat with various types of handmade fabric, ribbons, flowers, recycled jewelry, plastic bottles, acrylic paint, and wirer beadwork.

The 2nd subject for my Happy Place relates to time spent with my husband traveling to the islands to celebrate our wedding anniversary and his birthday. As a memento for this celebration I created hand embroidery of the ocean we viewed and took pictures. The embroidery of the ocean was made in an eye shape and wirer eye shape outlines this embroidery.
