Safety pins. A material used to mend and repair. A manufactured product that proposes a solution- to reverse time, to resolve misfortune. An item that is supposedly used for good. However, this product is rooted within lies. Empty promises that swear to ‘make things right’. To fix the broken. To simply dismiss advantage that has been taken. To return a possession to its original state, with the complete disregard of consequence. Absolute impossibilities. My piece, The Irreversible, aims to represent the human experience of living on an abused, mistreated and hurt Earth.

Initially, man kind was provided a beautiful and fruitful planet, allowing us to prosper and grow. However, despite this honorable offering, time and time again, our species has taken advantage. We have offered countless ‘band-aid’ solutions to issues that we have caused, solutions to actions that have often done more harm than good.

Our lack of care for our Earth has caused it to turn on itself. Represented within the reversible nature of my design, what was once beautiful, fruitful and prosperous, is now harmed, hurt and dangerous. Our actions have led the planet we live on to turn to a much darker, evil reality.

However, this is not to say that all of our actions are completely irreversible. It is possible for our planet to return to a life of beauty. If we stop making use of band-aid solutions in aim to repair our home, a plethora of possibilities will open up to us. Our life, our Earth, is what we make of it. So let’s make it better. Let’s reverse the irreversible.
