Description

I created this headpiece because I wanted to create something bright, beautiful and interesting – just like my daughter who is to me not only the earth but the moon, stars and everything in between.

Although my hat creations cannot change the earth I hope I’ve created a daughter who can do exactly that.

I could have created something more topical to show the damage the earth is going through or the traumas suffered. I could have tried to highlight global issues but I wanted to create something to show the elegance and wonders out there – I wanted to teach my daughter to always look for the positives and beauty.

Our earth is a place of wonder and creation, I hope my design shows this and gives the wearer a feeling of happiness and fun.

The headpiece features a crinoline swirl to represent a wave, an ombré silk fan to represent a fish tail, a delicate wire and resin butterfly, two curled quills which are painted in giraffe print and zebra print to represent the beautiful animals that walk the earth, a feather spray to represent a bird wing, handmade metal roses with leather leaves and finally a sinamay and beaded sunshine.
