Name of Hat
Omi Okun

Description

Omi Okun, a Yoruba name meaning sea water. Water is refreshing and can be equated to life. There is an adage where sea water is used. My people say when the sea is turbulent, you have to calm down. This is used when there’s is rancour between two parties.

The carefully-sculptures piece emerges from a fascinator base used, which has a dome shape at the middle.

Everything put together tells the turbulence often seen in the ocean it’s busy showing it energy. It’s as if it has a mind of its own. Indeed, it does!

The blue colour as seen on the fascinator base and the scultured swirl is the colour of the deep blue sea in its beautiful nature. The white swirl describes the sea waves when it’s in its full force. The hoops here and there are telling the story of how the sea waves move in whatever direction they choose. The crinoline curl attests to this fact.

  • Cutting on bias and dyeing of sinamay fabric
