Description

This hat represents the fishing village I was born and grew up in. I wanted to showcase the fun element of a hat but also have something that represents the local community. The hat depicts a fishing boat with its catch of the day with a seagull flying overhead waiting for the opportunity to steal a fish from the nets.

Techniques:

Blocking Fosshape
Wiring the edge
Covering in leather
Blocking sinamay to create the boat, boathouse, and decking
Beading the windows
Using silk abaca to create fish and seagull
Attaching veiling to create fishing net and sewing fish individually to the net
Using wire to support the seagull. Creating a pleated lining and adding Petersham ribbon.
