Project Overview

Use Rigilene boning to make curled and beaded stamens for finishing off your handmade flowers.

Rigilene boning is used by dressmakers for stiffening bodices, corsets, etc. Look for the type which is made from a number of thin plastic filaments stitched together to form a flat strip. You will be cutting through the stitching to take the boning apart and using only the filaments, so a solid plastic or metal boning will not work. Boning comes in two widths – buy the widest available as it will yield the most filaments.

These stamens look perfect inside a sinamay lily (above) and will also work well with many other flower styles.

This tutorial was written by HATalk Founder Ann Morse-Brown and was originally published in her book, Make Fascinators.
