Hat Making Project
DIY Hat Block
Hat Making Project

Projects / DIY Hat Block
Project Overview
Sometimes, you have to figure out how to work with what you’ve got. In this tutorial, British milliner Kerry Winter of Love Hats Millinery demonstrates how she made a homemade hat block using items you can find around the house.
Kerry blocked a sinamay headpiece on this DIY hat block, which she created using expandable insulation foam, a wok and papier-mâché.
While we’re definitely not suggesting that homemade foam blocks can replace the beautiful and long-lasting wooden shapes hand-crafted by professional block makers like Guy Morse-Brown Hat Blocks, we do think that knowing how to make some of your own shapes can be an inexpensive and innovative way to expand your millinery repertoire.
