Project Overview

A great project for millinery beginners, this pretty bow can be made with a single square of sinamay and a few feathers.

Simply attach it to a comb, headband or base and your new gathered sinamay bow fascinator is ready to wear!

What You Need

  • 1 x 18 inch (46cm) square of stiffened sinamay
  • 6 to 8 biot (spiky goose) feathers
  • 1 yard (metre) fine, strong cord (white for light sinamay colours, black for dark colours)
  • Thread to match sinamay
  • 1 small straw base in colour to tone with or match sinamay or feathers
  • Cutting out scissors
  • Small sharp-pointed scissors
  • Small tube of quick-drying clear glue
  • Darning needle
  • Sewing machine which can sew zig-zag stitches
  • Iron with steam setting and ironing board
  • Comb and narrow ribbon to bind it in colour to match or tone with straw base
