Create an easy-to-wear, trans-seasonal draped fabric bow headpiece.

Projects / Draped Bow Headband

Project Overview

In this tutorial, Martine Henry from Martine Henry Millinery demonstrates how to make her signature draped bow headband.

It is good to include a couple of trans-seasonal pieces when building a hat collection. Headband styles are an ideal choice as they are versatile and easy to wear. They can add interest to a daytime look or elevate an outfit from daywear to an evening out.

They are also a great introduction to millinery if your customer is required to dress up for a formal occasion but doesn’t want a traditional hat.

Your choice of fabric will impact the finished design, which should have a structured look. Select fabric that will allow you to create self-supporting soft folds without interfacing. For this project, I used a cotton jacquard. You will need enough fabric to make a bias strip that is approximately 25 cm x 150 cm.
