Hat Making Project

Sinamay Lily Fascinator

Turn a set of sinamay lilies into a dramatic fascinator.

Projects / Sinamay Lily Fascinator

Project Overview

This Sinamay Lily Fascinator is an extension of the popular Sinamay Lily tutorial.

Before you begin, you will need to create 7 lilies, without stamens, in decreasing sizes. We suggest the square to make the largest one should be approximately 12.5cm x 12.5cm (5″ x 5″) and the smallest should be 6.5cm x 6.5cm (2.5″ x 2.5″).

Don’t bind your sinamay lilies like you normally would. You will need to do this in a slightly different way for the Sinamay Lily Fascinator than you would when making a single flower. Save any leftover pieces of sinamay, even the smallest, as these will be useful when finishing off the fascinator.

Once your lilies are ready, you can follow the steps in this tutorial to turn them into a dramatic headpiece by arranging them on a quill and securing it to a fascinator base.

The Sinamay Lily Fascinator is a fun millinery project and doesn’t require expensive tools or materials. It is a great project to start with if you are new to hat making.

This tutorial was written by HATalk Founder Ann Morse-Brown and was originally published in her book, Make Fascinators.
